Nadine Vauthier, watercolor artist
Watercolor is a wonderful medium and can be done by anyone. This is my motto. I have been painting for over 40 years and have many styles.
I have been a member of the Annapolis Watercolor Club for over 7 years and was the acting president for three years. This club has helped me improve my technique and ameliorate my styles. I love pen and ink finishing my paintings. Watercolor sometimes looks a little bland in some cases but when you add pen and ink, it can really make it pop! There are so many ways to manipulate this medium and that's what makes it fun.
Originally born in Canada, both my parents we're artists. My mother was a fabric artist and my father was a jeweler trained in Switzerland. I have been painting since I was 11 years old. While living on board a sailboat, it was the easiest and the most transportable medium that I could use. I have not been trained formally in art design or painting, I guess it comes naturally since both my parents are artists.
My painting started really taking off when I joined the Annapolis watercolor Club. I finally met like minded artists in the watercolor medium and was inspired by their styles. I started to paint and frame my artwork and submit it into exhibitions. Along with being part of a club that met each month, the club gave demonstrations on different watercolor techniques, I became their publicity chair, webmaster, and then I became their president for three years.
I don't consider myself having any typical style, I do love to paint food since I am in the restaurant business and love to cook. Everyday is a learning experience and every day I find that my style and my talent ameliorates. I am always open to new techniques and new mediums. Watercolor has always been my first love. The way the colors look so fresh and clean, it adds a light to the work that you don't get with other mediums. I like to travel and find that watercolors are the simplest way to do art on the road or "on the run" so to speak.
I have been painting since I was 12 years old, I have never studied art, just learned techniques as I got older. Both parents are artists so it comes naturally. I enjoy watercolor because you can't paint anywhere. You can bring it with you and create
